Music

I promise to write about how music rescued me from depression
How it magnified my inner self
And it made visible all parts of me that I couldn't see before

I promise to share with you everything I gathered from music
From self awareness to harsh reality
It's sole purpose was to educate us
Expound upon the knowledge we got from school
Make our lives better by redefining how we view things

Through music I taught myself how to deal with the world negatives
I also discovered that karma is unforgiving
Hate on someone and the same  happens to you
It's just a matter of time

As I lay on my bed this cold morning
I reflect on what my heart has been through
I also reminisce the good times I had with colleagues
Friends I met during this holiday
There's was a short term
But I enjoyed every second we spent

My journey has been adventurous
The weather has at times behaved
And my feet have always ensured that I kept walking
Though the sole of my shoe is getting old,
I'm certain that I shall find a new pair as soon as I arrive at my destination

This Far

1994 was the year a prince was brought to this world 

It was the year that he finally got his first glimpse of what earth looks like 

Inside his mama's womb, the vision was blurry

Dickson Machembe is fully grown

Gone are the days his dad used to provide everything

I've been on some elevating shit lately. My mind has really grown as a result of this process. Spiritually, I can now live amongst pessimists and optimists without conflict.

Dad must be proud of me now. His product is legit. First born son is independent. Fully grown and can now pay his bills.

This far is by the grace of God. I'm blessed and continue to feel blessed all day long.

Thursday Interlude

I woke up feeling so good that I might buy a new pair of shoes today. It's an interlude when I act normal, walk with confidence and smile all day. Its unusual, though when it occurs, I embrace it with joy.

I must say that Kenyan Trap music is getting better everyday. There are a lot of young acts redefining this scene.

Kibbz the rapper, Just Waxx, Timmy Tim and Bv Accurate just to name a few, are amazing. Fans get a taste of their greatness from their SoundCloud accounts.

Monday Vibes

Today began so well. The boss started off by trying to tease me but later on he found out that I'm very intelligent. All this time he has been underestimating my potential. He has been mistaking my politeness for my weakness.

Truth is that I live a quiet life in a noisy world. Only a few people comprehend my lifestyle. Some think that I'm a sad little boy still in his twenties trying to figure out things. I just look at them with my critical eye and pray that  they see the light one day.

Moral of the story: Everyone has his own uniqueness. Our problem is that we are quick to judge.

Last Week

The week is finally over. The experience was great. Though tedious, I learnt a lot from my seniors.

This week has gone so fast. I remember it was Monday just the other day. Time flies as they say. We live and yarn for the best. Our duty to this earth is to win always.

Now, I'm heading home for some rest. Worn out feeling but I'll recover quickly. I don't need a doctor for my pains. A warm bath, nutritious food, uplifting music and some bed rest will do.

Smiling faces every where. My facial expressions are contradicting. I can't     hide my feelings with a fake smile.

I shouldn't be feeling this way. I shouldn't be acting like everything is fine while it's not. I shouldn't be looking at my past with regrets as I hope for a brighter future.

What should I be doing then?
I got to keep my head up and stay focused. I ought to console and motivate my soul when need arises. My thoughts should be inclined to where I'm headed.

I am a basketball player aiming for the net. My athletic body is an added advantage.

J.Cole 2014 Forest Hills Drive Album Review

Jermaine Cole is one honest rapper who believes in greatness. This manifests itself  after his album went platinum in a few weeks. Let's bear in mind that there was no promotion nor advertisement prior to its release.

Forest Hills Drive album debuted number one on the billboard top 200 charts and held that position for a while.
This project has no features but only accredited samples.

From his previous work, Born Siner, Cole has made a huge artistic progress. He let his emotions control him before and now he tries to explain to us how he overcomed his fears . 13 Songs long is the latest offering for his die hard fans.

This is a narrative of a young ambitious black male born in Carolina then later moved to New York seeking a better life. While there, his mom was kicked out of their apartment due to unpaid dues.
Cole also reminisces on his childhood life and adolescence stage among other issues he faced while growing up.
He also challenges his competition who are claiming to be kings. The white man taking over a black man's game is his biggest worry. Iggy Azalea, Eminem, Macklemore and Justin Timberlake are mentioned on Fire Squad as an example.
The production is good. It is usually hard to find a rapper and producer at the same time trying to balance the two. J. Cole succeeds in this. For an album released at the end of the year, it is safe to say that he    managed to have the best album of 2014. I can't say the same for 2015 though.

Introducing Wan Rizzy

Artist Spotlight: Wan Rizzy

The good thing about music is that new artists keep emerging to be at par with listeners rising demands. As technology advances, music production and the whole recording process is impacted.

Today, we focus on an artist who built a bigger fan base by utilizing what the internet has to offer. Wan Rizzy is the artist featured here today. The Ugandan Miami raised rapper brings a new musical vibe to a targeted audience. Fans aren't disappointed because his is a feel-good type of music.
He has several singles under his name both uploaded to popular Kenyan mp3 sharing website mdundo.com.
"In Another World" is one of his best tracks so far that managed to establish a name for him. This song has a mellow vibe accompanied by the smooth production.

Year 2015 has really been a great one for hip-hop. Regionally, Wan Rizzy breathes fresh air into our local hip-hop scene. This is one artist you have to watch out for because he's got talent.

Xtatic Let Me Xplain Mixtape Review

2015 has been a great year for hip hop internationally. With album releases from heavy weights like Kendrick and Drake, it is safe to say that Hip hop is still alive.

Locally, rappers have also tried to keep hip hop alive by releasing outstanding projects. Our very own Xtatic, born Gloria Edna Mecheo joined the list by offering Let Me Xplain Mixtape which was received well by her fans, me included.

The Mixtape was uploaded to popular music sharing website, Audiomack on 27^th March 2015. It includes features and productions from both Kenyan and other African rappers and producers.

Let Me Xplain is a 9 song project that encompasses common issues in life them among them being love, self awareness and patriotism.

B.I.G.H features up and coming South African female rapper, Devour Le Kenyora. The abbreviation stands for Bitch I go Hard, a word which is encouraging. Xtatic starts off by pointing out her troubles and delivers a smooth verse focused on hope. On the second verse, Devour dedicates the song to under achievers while enlightening us on her troubled past as a teenager until she saw the light. The song typically stresses on the importance of knowing oneself and having hope in all your endeavors.

Composure is a love song produced by South African rapper and producer, Lazr Beam, who happens to also have a verse on it. Xtatic sounds love struck and points out her frustrations from her lover. She regrets being in the relationship but her feelings speak louder. Lazr Beam comes in assuring X that things will get better. He serenades his lover and at some points manages to win her over again by his charm.

Fuck a Hater is for haters who strive to bring you down, as said by Xtatic on the first verse. Timmy Tim, of Cr3w Teflon joins with hard bars. He boasts of being young, gifted and a womanizer. He also brags of getting lots of cash and the only place to be found is in the studio. Priddy Ugly, a South African rapper who was once featured on award winning Hit 'Em up, finishes up threatening any one hating. He states that he'll kill any one on his way.

Jabulani Remix is my favorite jam off of Let Me Xplain. The original version was done by Fena Gitu, a talented female Kenyan singer. It is all about rejoicing and being grateful for every achievement. Fena raps about her dreams maturing to reality and remembers our fallen soldiers. The beat is catchy and this is definitely a banger. It deserves a music video.

Let Me Xplain, a lead single featuring Iddi the Singer, is the only track with a music video. Before Xtatic lays her 16 bars, she reflects on where she has come from. She also recalls lessons from her parents and cherishes everything she learns. Iddi the Singer on the hook, emphasizes out how he tries to be the change in his life and wants you to let him explain it in detail. The album version of this song is actually extended as X raps elaborates on how she's coping up with world negatives and her future.

Means War is very gangsta. Xtatic raps about how she's the best and how much work she's put out so far. Her lyrical ability is undeniable as she goes hard telling and challenging every rapper to up their game.

Natives is flag-waving as it praises our motherland Africa. Coca cola once said “There are a billion reasons to believe in Africa.” In this song, Xtatic brings out the theme of patriotism and preaches love and unity. Spoken word artist Corinne Kahi delivers a very beautiful verse about her motherland. Despite our skin tone, we're heading to Canaan. God made Africa, it was blessed with life, beautiful nature. Poet tear drops is dissapointed by the fact that our culture has been eroded. He finishes off by saying that in Africa we live in herds, unity is our pride.

Nguruma is that song you want to listen when you are high. FemiOne Shikow goes in with a swift and tight word play claiming that she's the voice of this generation. Small Lethalz also proves why he's tough and he roars for the people. For the first time in the Mixtape, Xtatic raps a few lines in Swahili. She is stress free and the boss.

Run the Drill is like a cypher. The rappers featured deliver verses assuring fans of their greatness. This song also deserves a Cypher themed video. It also should be in black and white. It is gangsta if you ask me.

I would give it a 8/10.
